David was born on August 26, 1949 to Elaine and the late Claude Goetz in Manitowoc, WI. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1967. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971 and served on the USS Kretchmer and the USS New Jersey battleships in Vietnam. David also served 13 years with the United States Naval Reserves. He was a paramedic with Salem Township, WI from 1978-1984. David worked at the North Chicago VA Medical Center as a Supervisor, Carpenter/Paint Shops. After 30 years of service, Dave retired. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.
David was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Packers win the 2011 LXV Superbowl. His favorite activities were fishing and hunting with his friend Brian Elkins, along with grilling, gardening, and just being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife Donna; two daughters; Elizabeth (Casey) Ketterhagen, his grandsons Carson and Cole from Hartland, WI; and Katherine (Greg) Youra, grandsons Jacob and Miles from Highwood, IL. Sisters and brothers are Vicki (Larry) Carvelli, Bradenton, FL; Allen (Elizabeth) Goetz, St. Charles, IL; Claudia (James) Ronayne, Lake Zurich, IL; Steven (Barbara Jean) Goetz, Gages Lake; Daniel (Lydia) Goetz, Newton, IA; Angie (Robert) Whitlock, North Wales, PA; Greg (Dawn) Goetz, Waukesha, WI; Andrea (Michael) Sakoff, Lake Zurich, IL; Barbara (Todd) Laffin, Carpentersville, IL; Rita (Steve) Garvey, Phoenix, AZ; Paul Goetz, Denver, CO and aunts, uncle, cousins, many nieces and nephews and his four legged companion, Madison. He is preceded in death by his father Claude Goetz and brother John Goetz.
Visitation will be at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL on Friday, May 20 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. the memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by internment at Highland Memorial Park, 33100 N. Hunt Club Road, Libertyville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aurora Medical Center (Oncology Service), Kenosha, Wisconsin or the Lovell FHCC (formerly VA Medical Center), North Chicago, IL.
