Born in Guelph, passed away at the Village of Riverside Glen Velma was predeceased by the love of her life Henry (2003), her son David (2024) and granddaughter Danielle, her parents Thomas and Edna, sisters Mona and Joan and brothers Jim and Ron. She is survived by her son Doug (Doreen) and several nieces and nephews.
Velma was born and raised in Guelph and worked at Matthew Wells (Pickle Factory) with her siblings as did a large part of the young population in Guelph. This is where she met her future husband Henry. A New Yorker by birth he swept her away back to Southampton Long Island where they started a family and raised 2 sons. Velma was employed as a PSW at the time until a back injury curtailed her career. After many years on the Island the family made it back to Guelph and began another journey back to her roots. There was never a dull moment when the sisters got together on the weekends, many fond and happy memories of a small house on Victoria Rd (the same house where she was born and raised) that catered to countless family and friends.
Always a classy lady and sharp dresser to the day she passed away. We will miss that New Yorker accent and her love of dogs (Dapper Dog and Misty and Fred).
Services entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home Hart Chapel, cremation has taken place. A Graveside Committal Service will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery (762 Woolwich Street, Guelph) on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 am.
