It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Uuldrika “Ria” Visser, who left us peacefully at the age of 96 on March 16 at Freeport Hospital in Kitchener. She was predeceased by her darling husband, Jan (2003).
Born in the Netherlands, Ria and Jan arrived in Canada in 1960 with their three children in search of a better life. They settled in Guelph, where they embraced the Canadian way of life. Several years later, they welcomed their fourth child and the family was now complete.
Ria was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Gatherings wouldn’t be complete without food, conversation and a cup of coffee. As a cook, she was unmatched, with her signature dish, meatball soup, a family favorite that will be cherished forever. Ria was a woman of many talents. In her later years, a passion for painting filled her and her family’s homes with beauty. She also enjoyed the art of poetry and would always insert a beautiful mix of words into birthday cards for family to cherish. Ria excelled at bowling and continued to play well into her 80s, always with a smile and a competitive spirit. Her warmth, friendliness, and dedication to her family made her a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. As a homemaker, she created a loving home for her family, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew.
Ria was a loving mother to Ina (Jim DiSapio) of Paris, Ontario, Onno (Margie) Point Clark, Ontario, Jan Jr. (Natalie) Waldoboro, Maine, and Annette (Scott Snively), Cambridge, Ontario. She was dear “Nan” to grandchildren Carolyn, Jason (Rovelyn), Christine (Paul), Adam (Adam), Eric, Kevin (Ally), Celina (Neil), Christopher (Jeanne), Candice (Bill) and Aiden, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by one granddaughter, Donna (1988), and all of her siblings.
Private gathering and burial.
