Shirley Lillian Doyle

Shirley Lillian Doyle (nee Drake) passed away on September 4, 2023 at the age of 93 after a long life well lived.

Proud mother to Colleen (Lipp) and loving mother-in-law to Gordon, Shirley is predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Larry, her mother (Lillian), her father (Percy), and her four siblings, Gwynneth (Matthew), Lesley, Kingsley and Carol Ann. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends.

Shirley was born, raised, and married in Montreal. Though she relocated to Guelph more than 40 years ago, when asked where she was from, her first response was always Montreal. She often shared fond memories of lifelong friendships forged in Montreal and fun-filled days spent with friends and family at the cottage she and Larry built on Trouser Lake in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

Shirley retired from her position with the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1993. Though her plans to retire with Larry were not to be, she spent the following years realizing their shared dream, wintering in Florida and travelling throughout Europe. Though her travels slowed in later years, she remained committed to enjoying each day with her many good friends, good food and good wine.

Special thanks to the staff of the Ellington and the Nichol neighbourhood of Riverside Glen who cared for Shirley with great kindness and compassion in her final months.

A funeral mass will be held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 238 Main Street North, Rockwood on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11 a.m.. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario are greatly appreciated.
