JOHNSON, Ronald Fletcher— Passed away in his 85th year on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Guelph. Ron was born on August 14, 1926 in Broseley, Shropshire, the son of Arthur Fletcher Johnson and Mabel Beatrice Onions, the youngest brother of Arthur and Jean. In 1943, at the age of 17, he joined the Royal Navy, serving on His Majesty's Battleship King George V in the South Pacific during the Second World War. Emigrating to Canada in 1952, he then started what would become a lifetime career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, working for the National TV News Department in Toronto. Ron was an avid golf enthusiast, and enjoyed the company of friends and family on and off the fairways of Don Valley, Buttonville, Huntsville and Naples, Fla. Ron will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-six years, Mavis, and by his loving son, Craig (Sara), his three dear grandchildren, Samuel, Lily and Nicholas, and family in England. Ron was predeceased by sons David Fletcher and Ian Robert. Ron's family would like to pay a special note of thanks to the nursing staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre. The cremation has now taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. Family flowers only. In expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
