Born in 1947, Peter is predeceased by his parents Howard, a veteran of both World Wars and Joan, a British war bride. Peter was also predeceased by a sister Janet, who died in infancy and step-father Leslie Smith.
He is survived by his daughter Sarah (Jon) Ingram, grandchildren Hugh and Harry, a brother John (Susan), nephews Alex and Adam (Samantha), and grand nephew Wesley. Also, his partner and best friend Carol Reid.
After leaving Sebringville, Peter lived in Kitchener, Guelph, Oakville and finally Barrie.
Peter was very much a self-made success, leaving high school at 16 and worked at Kroehler Furniture and soon ended up in an office working as a bookkeeper. Years later he would get his high school diploma at night school and similarly became a Chartered Professional Accountant.
In 1984, he was hired by NORTEL as senior tax manager and again worked his way up the corporate ladder of one of Canada’s biggest companies, holding a number of executive positions and becoming the Vice-President/Mergers and Acquisitions. Peter had a reputation as a tireless and successful leader and for one six-month period commuted weekly to London, England.
Following NORTEL he operated a successful consulting company as well as several other ventures.
Peter enjoyed skiing, slowpitch, curling and golf and loved to travel including China, England, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Italy and Florida many times and to Dawson City for the summer solstice. Later in life, Carol was his treasured travel companion.
Peter loved to tell a story, and he was very good at it. If you were around him long enough, you would hear the same story again – often with a different and much better ending.
Peter will be buried in a private ceremony in the Kastner section of the Sebringville cemetery.
Peter’s family invites anyone who knew him to a Celebration of Life Monday, April 28, 2-5 p.m. at the Cambridge Mill.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Kastner Family Fund at Barrie Community Foundation or a charity of your choice.
