It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathryn Neale on April 15th, 2023, at age 53. Beloved mother to Kaitlyn, Breanna, and Aidan Nelson. Loving sister of Sondra-Ann Neale Smyrnios (Steven). Cherished daughter of Kenneth and Sondra Neale.
Kathryn will be fondly remembered by all friends and extended family, including Dianne Nelson, Diane Richard (Guy), Linda and Ann-Marie Neale, Kye and Teya Smyrnios, Liam and Adam Tremblay, and Edward and Daniela Nelson.
Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Kathryn was the youngest daughter of Ken and Sondra Neale, and spent most of her childhood in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She excelled at school and all kinds of sports. She spent summers at the family cottage swimming, hiking and exploring the outdoors with her sister Sondra-Ann and family friends.
Kat attended the University of Waterloo, obtaining a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering and later a Master of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering. She was an avid cheerleader for the Waterloo Warriors and the Toronto Argonauts. The University of Waterloo was the meeting place for some of her closest life-long friends who, despite years and distance, remained near and dear to her heart.
As a sports enthusiast and mother of three, many of her weekends were spent driving, watching and cheering on her kids and their many sports teams. On the off chance her kids weren’t playing (and after they “retired” from competitive sports), Kat would seize the opportunity to catch the latest Jays game or curling match. Kat was passionate about music and loved attending concerts. Her last concert was Roger Waters this past summer with her son, a long standing tradition that started at a young age when she attended Pink Floyd concerts with her dad.
Lover of animals and books, Kat could often be found curled up on the couch with a mystery novel and a can of Diet Dr Pepper, surrounded by her dog and two cats. In the summertime you would find her on the back deck, soaking up the sun and the fresh air. Kat also enjoyed traveling whenever possible and was always interested in hearing stories about other people’s adventures.
Kat will be remembered as a kind, compassionate and loving person. She was always the first to offer support to others. Whether it be a drive, a place to stay or a shoulder to cry on, Kat was always there for her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ICU staff at Guelph General Hospital for their compassion and support.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph. A private family funeral service is to take place. Guests are welcome to join the family at a reception in the funeral home on Saturday April 22, 2023 from 2:00-5:00pm.
