WHETSTONE, John Harvey at the Guelph General Hospital on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Harvey Whetstone, age 94 years, predeceased by his beloved wife Zita (Serafin) Whetstone (2010). Dear father of Leslie Garcia (Alan) of Guelph and Jay and his wife Marlies of Waterloo. Loved grandfather of Kelly (James), Justin (Deanna), William (Rina) and Christiane (Graham) and great-grandfather of Alexander, Benjamin and Jemma. Dear brother of the late Phyllis Guidolin (late Aldo), and the late Edward Whetstone (late Pat). Beloved son of the late Margaret (Simpson) and late Edward Whetstone.
Harvey had an infectious personality who could always light up a room with conversation and laughter and was greeted by friends and acquaintances wherever he seemed to go. His dedication to his family was remarkable. Whether it be to help provide or just be present for anyone in need, he made sure to be there in any way he could. Harvey was a successful business owner in the community of Guelph throughout his years and was an accomplished baseball player in his youth, winning the provincial championship with the Guelph Leaflets in 1949; only later to be inducted in the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame as a winning team in 2006.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin Street North, Guelph (519-822-4731). Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, 28 Norfolk Street, Guelph on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:30am. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Inurnment at Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum, Marymount Catholic Cemetery, 5400 Highway 6 North, Guelph. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Basilica of Our Lady Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
