Joan Byrne

Peacefully in her home, on June 11, 2016. Beloved wife of Andy for over 55 years. Much loved mother to Gary (Carla) and Terry (Judy). Cherished aunt to Tara (Dan). Nana will be greatly missed by Daniel, Sarah, Colin, Joshua and Hannah. Joan is survived by her brother Desmond (Maura). She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Oney, and her brothers-in-law Shay (May), Tommy and Gerry (Ursula). Joan is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Julia; brothers Tommy (Annie) and Brendan (Rose); sisters Eileen (Leo) and Betty (Nick); brother-in-law Larry, and sister-in-law Stella (Freddie). She will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends, both here and abroad.

Joan was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 9, 1937. One of six children, of Michael and Julia Burke. Joan and Andy married in 1960. After living in Dublin for several years, she, Andy and their two sons embarked on a grand adventure and immigrated to Canada in 1967, settling first in Toronto but eventually making Cambridge their home. For the next forty years, Joan lived life as the grand matron of various golf courses, most notably Cambridge Golf Club. Joan was passionate about her family. She was a kind, elegant and generous woman, who never left home without looking her very best She was a constant source of love and inspiration to all who had the honour of knowing her.

The family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, on Monday, June 20th, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Vigil at 3:30 p.m. Mass will be held at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, Guelph, on Tuesday, June 21st at 10:00 a.m. followed by an interment at Marymount Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Joan’s family would be grateful for memorial donations to the Canadian Society for Mucopolysaccaride & Related Diseases (www.mpssociety.ca)
