It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Captain Jaroslav “Jerry” Nesvadba on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Jerry was in his 97th year. Loving father of Benjamin and his wife Donna Nesvadba. Cherished grandfather of Amy Price (Allen) and Jodi Alderete (Carlos). Beloved great grandfather of Benjamin and Emily Price.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie Nesvadbová, his parents Karel and Amalka Nesvarbovi, as well as his brothers Jiří and Mirek Nesvarba and half siblings Tonik Nesvadba and Milena Jelínková.
Jerry was born on December 27, 1926, in Mirotín, Poland. At 16, he voluntarily joined the army to fight in WWII. At the beginning of his career, along with the Czechoslovak army, he fought under the British Command. He was part of the First Czechoslovak Army Corps under General Ludvík Svoboda and was deployed and battled in the Carpathian-Dukel operation. He met Marie when he came back from the war and they were married on December 6, 1947, in Lovosice, celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary just last year! They had a son, Benjamin in 1953 and, in 1969 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto, Ontario. Jerry drove a crane and worked in a construction machine plant assembling equipment for many years. They moved to Brampton in the late 1970s and he retired in 1990.
Jerry loved music, had a wonderful bass voice, and sang in the church choir for several years. His family meant so much to him. He loved just spending time outdoors and going on walks to admire the beautiful scenery around him. He enjoyed spending time together with his son and grandchildren and then later on his great grandchildren who called him ‘biabi dedo.’ He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing he is in heaven with our Heavenly father, reunited with his beloved wife and that we will all meet again one day.
Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home- Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph. The family of Jerry invites friends and relatives for a visitation on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 11:00am-1:00pm. Interment will be held on August 2nd in Sussex, New Brunswick.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, where he resided for the past seven years and received the highest level of care. Donations can be made online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com or in-person at the funeral home.
