Peacefully, after a brief illness on 29 September 2024, surrounded by love and prayers, at Guelph General Hospital. Born in Istrana, Treviso, Italy 25 June 1937, Ida immigrated to Canada in 1953 at the age of 16 with her mother and four of her seven siblings. She soon found work to establish her new life in Canada, living with her family on Ferguson Street and later Anthony Avenue. She married Nilo on 22 October 1960 and together they built a happy home, raising three children on the outskirts of Guelph. They embraced their new life in a new country, proudly learning the language and culture, and encouraged their children to aspire to higher learning. Ida was a calming and gentle presence, encouraging a balance between achievement and enjoyment. Ida loved baking and cooking for the family, especially her grandchildren. There was always a treat to be enjoyed at Nonna’s house. She enjoyed many crafts especially the arrangement of dried flowers and Bunka embroidery. She was often ahead of the norm, known for her sense of fashion, willingness to experience new things, kind heart and surprising sense of humor.
Ida was pre-deceased by her husband Nilo (1998) and daughter Daniela (Nesbitt, 2014). She will be lovingly remembered by her children Pierre (Theresa) and Denise (Arthur Smith), and grandchildren Alexander, Andre, Serena, Christopher, Kira, Allison, Sabrina and Myles. In her 88th year, Ida was the last surviving member of her nuclear family, predeceased by her parents, Giovanni and Maria Comacchio, and her siblings Edoardo, Bruno, Liliana, Giorgio, Silvio, Bruna, and Lucia. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States and Italy.
