It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gena Simpson at her home on Thursday, October 20, 2023 in her 92nd year.
She was a devoted, loving, and loved mother to her three sons Terry and twins Ron (1981) and Randy (Jeannine). A caring and treasured sister to her siblings Gino (Lorna), Virginia Miller (Paul 2023), John (Pauline), and the late Peter (2015) (Carol). Sister in law of the late Marj (Simpson) Lucking. Proud Nona to Aaron, Drew, and Tahlia. She loved her many wonderful nieces and nephews and found joy in the love and care extended to her by them and their spouses and children. She will be missed by her many friends and neighbours whom were very dear to her.
She had a long and rewarding career in managing women’s retail fashion stores where she formed many long lasting friendships. After her retirement, she made many more friends as she became an avid walker who was always eager to meet and engage with those she met on her daily walks. She was particularly happy anytime she was able to engage with young children.
She enjoyed playing bridge and her enthusiasm for the game was another basis for more long lasting friendships. However, she was happiest in cooking and baking for her family, friends, and neighbours and always warmly welcomed guests into her home. She was eager to receive and provide hospitality at any chance she had.
Gena was a kind, caring, generous woman who had a unique sense of style and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Thank you to the Bayshore nursing staff, Homecare Waterloo Wellington, and to Dr. Schieck for their exceptional care and compassion.
