He was born on January 16, 1926, in Toronto and grew up and attended school in Guelph.
Loving Husband to Ruth who passed last year. Loving Father to David, Terry, the late Ruth Anne, Jim, John and Geoff. Proud grandfather of Andrew, Shannon, Elizabeth, Lisa, Joseph, Daniel, Emma, Ryan, Sarah, Matthew, Spencer, Cameron and Oliver. Happy great-grandfather to Eva, Sam, Emma, Sofia, Exander, Larenne, Ellie, Lina, Charlotte, Jackson and Thomas. Dear brother of Newton, June, William, Bruce, Doreen and Bev, all who predeceased him. He will be missed by all friends and extended family and his caregivers at St. Joseph’s.
In his early years, Garnet, alongside his beloved wife Ruth, served as a minister for the Salvation Army in Midland, offering his time and care to those in need. He also served as a chaplain at the prison in Penetanguishene during this time. He lived a life full of resilience, determination, and quiet strength.
Garnet was certified Professional Engineer. His career as a construction project manager took him across Canada and around the globe. He worked at various energy projects in Sarnia and Fort McMurray, as well as Point Lepreau Nuclear in New Brunswick. He also worked overseas in Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Mexico among others. He finished his career in London Ontario working for St. Joseph’s Health Care in London.
Garnet was known for his charm and determined spirit. He found great joy in gardening and continued to cultivate his love for plants well into his 97th year, generously donating flats of flowers and tomato plants to the Salvation Army.
Garnet’s legacy of hard work, service, and love for his family and community will be remembered by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
