It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy at Eden House on October 7th, 2022. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Ernest Hughes (2000) for 49 years. Loving mother of Richard Hughes (Carol) and Carl Hughes (Rebecca). Cherished grandmother to Court Hughes (Jaclyn), Kathryn Hughes and Abigail Hughes and very proud great grandmother of Henry Hughes.
Dorothy was predeceased by her father Frederick Holton (1958), her mother Elizabeth (1971) her brother Frederick (1985) and her sister Phyllis Foster (2004). Survived by her sister Winnifred Warner.
Dorothy was born in Brantford in 1925. As a young girl she enjoyed singing in the church choir with her mother and sisters and summers at the family cottage at Port Ryerse. In 1943 she enlisted along with 21,000 other women in the Canadian Women’s Auxiliary Corps and was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon her discharge from service in 1945 she attended a local business college in Brantford. For the next thirty years she worked in various administrative and accounting positions for local family physicians in both Brantford and Oakville.
Dorothy had both an open heart and mind and was a loving and generous human being. Both family and friends feel very fortunate to have shared in her life.
Special thanks to the management and staff at Eden House for the care and support provided to Dorothy over the past six years.
