It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ann Hipgrave on December 12, 2023, at the Norfolk Manor, age 99. Loving mother to son Brooks (Lisa) and daughter, the late Bonnie Krupchyn (Russell). Cherished grandmother of Blair (Suzanne), David (Maggie) and Amanda. Predeceased by husband Bill Russell and husband Ted Hipgrave.
Will be missed by all who knew her especially her lifelong friend, Fran Coleman.
Vi was born in Font Hill. It was in Toronto that she met and married Ted Hipgrave. They moved up to their cottage on Lake Waseosa in 1964 before eventually buying a home on Church Street where she lived till moving closer to family in Guelph in 2015.
They bought property at the corner of Brunel Rd and High St – built and opened Muskoka Sports Centre Limited which they operated for 10 years. Vi always lived near Fairvern Nursing Home and became a “Friend of Fairvern” doing Hospice work. She said there was a need and she was available. She always felt that she was bringing a little sunshine to the folks. Vi was a spry, vital woman with a bouncy walk. Up until she moved to Guelph, Vi would walk 5km a day along the streets of Huntsville. She wore a wonderful smile, a twinkle in her eyes and a voice that was lyrical. She could recite In Flanders Field from memory along with many poems and songs from her youth. Faith and spirituality were her foundation and carried her through much sadness and grief during her life.
A sincere thank you To Dr Rosebush and all the amazing staff of Norfolk Manor Retirement Home who cared so lovingly for Vi each and every day.
Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St, N, Guelph. Private cremation has taken place. Interment will take place in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Guelph or Huntsville Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family in honor of her great love of animals. Donations and condolences can be made online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
