Al spent many years as a dedicated truck driver and owner-operator, following the open road with a love for the journey and the people he met along the way. Later in life, his restless spirit led him to launch his own pilot car business, escorting oversized loads and proving that his thirst for adventure could never be slowed down.
In retirement, Al became a proud, licensed HAM radio operator, forging lasting friendships that kept his mind sharp and his heart full—even as physical limitations and a Parkinson’s diagnosis made it harder to get out and about as often as he would’ve liked.
Al had a unique gift for making people feel special. He was famous for handing out playful, one-of-a-kind nicknames that never failed to bring a smile. When he lived in Acton, his garage sales were legendary—so much so that his family had to keep a close eye on their belongings to make sure they didn’t accidentally end up on the sales table!
Always full of ideas and eager for his next project, Al once parked an old linen truck in his driveway, convinced he could turn it into a chip truck. The plan was paused by a hip replacement, but never forgotten—his creativity and determination never wavered.
Al’s work took him across Canada and the U.S., but in his downtime, he and Sue—along with friends and family—loved traveling to “non-road trip” destinations. Some of his favourites included St. Thomas, Aruba, and the Mediterranean.
Al was a beacon of positivity, inspiring those around him with his resilience, his humour, and his unwavering effort to lift others up. He leaves behind a family and many circles of friends who will miss his energy, his stories, and the countless adventures he shared.
May the road ahead be as smooth as he always hoped it would be
