Maria Luisa Soliz, 93, of Groves passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas to her parents, Anita Vasquez Hernandez and Juan Hernandez on April 14, 1923.
Maria was a lifelong resident of the area and a very caring and devoted homemaker in raising her three daughters along with her husband, Marselino. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church as well as a member of the Damas Guadalupanas, the Altar Society and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, Marselino Soliz, her son-in-law, Francisco Lopez, Jr. and one grandson, Carlos Torres.
Maria is survived by her three daughters, Irene Lopez of Port Arthur, Linda Soliz of Groves, Yolanda Torres and husband, Rudy of Port Arthur, her five grandchildren, Francisco Lopez III and wife, Mayne, Christopher Lopez, Monica Lopez, Juana Rumsey and husband, Daniel, Kimberly Sthran along with seven great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Cokey Reyna, Carmen Leon and husband, Arthur and her brother-in-law, Jesse Montalvo all of Port Arthur along with numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Urbano Sáenz Ramírez, serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
