PORT ARTHUR — Irene Jones Fontnette was born July 31, 1928 in Loreauville, LA to the late Clarence Jones and Laura Francis Jones. She was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, surrounded by all of her children.
In April of 1948, she was united in marriage to Antoine “Toney” Fontnette at which time they moved to Port Arthur. They shared 56 years of marriage until his death in October, 2004. To this union nine children were born: four girls and five boys. She was a devoted homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a longtime and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
A visitation is scheduled from 8 am until the funeral service on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A rosary will be held at 9 am with the funeral service scheduled for 10 am with Father Charles Atuah officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Laura Jones; son, Russell James Fontnette; siblings, Marie Wiltz, Early Jones, Allen Jones, Vernice George, Emma Gardner, Roland Jones and Lucille Lee.
She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Dianne McGlory, Patricia Davis (Kenneth Sr.), Cheryl Gallow all of Port Arthur, and Corliss Mitchell (Jonathan) of Chattanooga, TN; four sons, Michael (Deborah), “Danny” Patrick (Tanya), Gerald and John all of Port Arthur; brother, Dalton Jones of St. Martinville, LA; 23 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
