Ethel Christy

Ethel Burkett Christy, 84, formerly of Baytown, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2014 surrounded by her family. Ethel was born October 30, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas to the late Jasper and Louise Burkett. After graduating from high school, Ethel went on to earn an associates degree in medical technology. On February 29, 1952, Ethel married Rex. E. Christy, Jr. This union would last some thirty four years until Rex's passing in 1986.

After retiring from the medical field, Ethel realized she could not tolerate retirement, so she became a greeter at the Wal-Mart in Baytown. Ethel was awarded the Greeter of the Year Award, of which she was very proud.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents Jasper and Louise Burkett, and her husband Rex E. Christy, Jr. and she is survived by her children Rex E. Christy III and James B. Christy of Baytown, Texas, Estella Louise Lochiano of New Franklin, Missouri, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Stafford officiating. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Grove, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Dominick, Shane Huron, Mike Marino, Eric Mason, Kenneth Risinger, and Jerry Stafford. Honorary pallbearers are James Burkett Christy, Jr, Rex Edward Christy, IV and Darron Risinger.
