Eleanor E. Trent

Vernell Trent, 79, of Port Arthur died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at The Medical Center of SE Texas. A native of Farmville, VA, he later moved to Port Arthur, TX, where he worked as a fisherman and a merchant seaman to support his family. He was a dedicated member of Shilo Baptist Church and was a 32nd degree mason.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor E. Trent; his parents, four brothers, three sisters, one son, Purnell Trent.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Relius Trent (Sandra), Adeline Sampson, Allen Sampson (Enola), Arthur Sampson, Jr. (Mary), Michael Sampson, Vernell Trent, Jr. and Julia Hickman all of Port Arthur, TX, Vernell Trent, Jr., Hazel Trent and Frances Trent all of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Shilo Baptist Church with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Rev. Samuel Joseph, Sr. will officiate. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
