Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Muriel (Fairchild) Snider, 91, of Huntington will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 6th, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darryl Smith officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Port Arthur. Mrs. Snider died Friday, July 3rd, 2015 in her home.
Dorothy was born in Stonewall, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Charles Howard and Nicola (Nicholson) Fairchild. She graduated from Enterprise High School, and went on to attend Delta State Teacher's College, currently known as Delta State University. She was united in marriage with John Kirk Snider, and they resided in Port Arthur until 1969 when they made their final home in Huntington. Mrs. Snider worked for Southern Union Gas Company as the home service director in both Mississippi and Texas, Lufkin Independent School District as the supervisor of the custodians and commodity warehouse, and Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital as the executive housekeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Huntington where serving in the church library and visiting the home-bound members were her passion. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Snider and wife Debi of Lufkin and Alan Snider of Odessa; her daughter, Rhonda Snider Collins and husband, Ricky of Denton; four grandchildren, Bret Burns, Wesley Brian Snider, Christiana Snider, and John Michael Snider; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Kirk Snider (1986).
Pallbearers are Greg Alexander, Greg Back, Bunk Buttler, Kevin Jeffrey, Billy Kirkland and Greg Williamson. Honorary pallbearers are all the former members of Lydia Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
