She was a 1975 graduate of Lincoln High School and a 1979 graduate of Texas Woman's University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received a Masters Degree in Hospital Care Administration from Texas Woman's University and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. Ms. Arceneaux served the healthcare community in various executive and administrative capacities, including Chief Operating Officer, Administrative Director, and Director of Nursing. She was a lawyer in private practice for 14 years and also served as Assistant County Attorney for Harris County. Ms. Arceneaux was a professional lecturer on healthcare related issues and spoke throughout the state and nation. She served on the executive committee of the Houston Branch NAACP and was chair of the Houston Branch NAACP ACT-SO enrichment program for over twenty years. In 2014, Ms. Arceneaux was presented with the inaugural National NAACP ACT-SO Advisory Council Award, for the chairperson who possesses and best exemplifies the traits of Leadership, Innovation, Inspiration, Collaboration and Risk Taking. Additionally, The Shell Corporation, a longtime sponsor of the Houston ACT-SO program, created a four year "Perseverance" scholarship in Ms. Arceneaux's honor. Along with other civic endeavors, she was a member of the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
Ms. Arceneaux leaves to mourn her death, her mother, Willie M. Arceneaux, two sisters, Meadow Lark Washington of Lutherville, Maryland and Robin Arceneaux Beaty of Richmond, Texas, brothers-in-law Joe Washington, Jr. and Rahn Beaty, niece and goddaughter, Brandy Washington and her husband Timothy Nickerson, nephew, Carl Addison Manney, uncle, Turner Odell Ladd of Pittsburg, Texas, aunt, Dorothy Ladd of El Paso, Texas, and longtime companion, Perry Wooten. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Leroy Arceneaux.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 821 Freeman Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas. Viewing hours will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
