Alvin Jones Sr Sr.

Alvin Jones, Sr., 87 of Port Arthur, TX passed away on August 1, 2013 at Cypress Glen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. A native of New Iberia, Louisiana, Alvin was a longtime resident of Port Arthur and a member of Israel Chapel AME Church, where he enjoyed church activities and singing with his male choir. He was a World War II Navy veteran and retired from Texaco/Star Enterprise Refinery with 38 years of service.

Alvin is survived by his wife of 68 years Nancy L. Jones; children, Alvin Jones, Jr., Dwight Jones, Alfreda Jefferson, Sharon DeJohn and Madeline Champ all of Port Arthur, TX, Jacqueline Harris and Karl Jones, Sr. both of Houston, TX, and Chatelle Paul of Port Arthur, TX; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Alvin is preceded in death by his father Sylvanus Jones Sr.; mother, Agnes Davis; stepfather, Noval Davis; step-mother, Marguerite Tate Jones; brothers, Sylvanus Jones, Jr., Elliot Jones, Leward Jones, and sisters, Dorothy Haney “DOT”, and Audrey McZeal Jones “DOLL”.

The family of Alvin Jones, Sr. wishes to thank Cypress Glen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, New Century Hospice and all who cared for him in his time of need.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Israel Chapel AME Church with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Rev. Theo W. Mays will officiate.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
