Mrs. Alice Walker moved to her new heavenly home on Thursday, August 10, 2012 at the Dubuis Center located within St. Mary’s Hospital. Mrs. Walker, a native of St. Martinville, Louisiana, was a resident of Port Arthur for 77 years and a faithful active member of First Sixth Street Baptist Church until her health began to fail.
Mrs. Walker was a housewife, who was married to Leonard “Bill” Charles for 18 years until his death and later married Sherman Walker for 17 years until his death. She was blessed to have one son, Walter Charles, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Harris; Son-in-law, Charles Harris; daughter-in-law, Louise Charles of Laguna Woods, California; three grandchildren, Sean C. Harris of Port Arthur, Deborah Charles of San Antonio, and Sean Charles (Sharon) of Long Beach, California; four great grandchildren, Taylor Harris, Joshua Harris, Sean A. Charles, and Sion Charles; one sister, Hattie (Leon) Oville; one brother, Delcome Francis, a devoted friend, Edgar Wise; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 17, 2012, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Hannah Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at First Sixth Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
