Timothy Michael Cox, 61, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024. He was born August 21, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. At last reunited with parents James Daniel and Linda Sue, Tim was one of the notorious Red-Headed Cox’s from Pataskala, Ohio. Little brother to Terry and Debby, big brother to Scott (Sherri), and twin brother to Jim (Patty). Tim is also survived by nephews and niece David, Justin, Lauren, and Josh. Tim could frequently be heard bragging about his two children: daughter, Rachel Cox (Ben Johnson); and his son, Danny Cox (Kaycee Bethel). The one thing most people knew for sure is he was proud to be their Father. Always quick to light up the room with a smile, Tim had a monumental impact on the people who knew and loved him from every walk of life.
Tim graduated from Watkins Memorial High School in 1982, and shortly thereafter began his career as an assistant marching band director at his alma mater. From WMHS - where he and dear friend Tom Young flourished in their early careers - Tim went on to be the director at Bloom Carroll High School for a brief stint in the early ‘90s before being convinced to join forces with the late great Michael D. Sewell and the Pickerington Marching Tigers.
During his years with the Tiger Band, Tim was able to travel the country for various parades and performances including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, and multiple appearances in the Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl Parades.
Music wasn’t Tim’s only passion; the man had a knack for transportation. His journey in the realm of transport began when he drove School Bus 18 - something he would talk fondly of often. Tim worked for Mount Carmel Connections as a dispatcher from ‘84-’96 where he met the mother of his children, Kathy. Tim would then go on to be the Director of Transportation for Groveport Madison through Laidlaw Transit, where he fell further in love with the industry of pupil transportation. He became the Director of Transportation for Reynoldsburg City Schools in 2001 before accepting the same position at South-Western City Schools in 2007.
At SWCS, Tim thrived in his position as supervisor and always knew how to take care of his people. A hard worker with a heart of gold, Tim loved his work families to the ends of the earth and they returned the sentiment.
Tim loved people, and he especially adored his people. A selfless boss, an inspirational band director, a loving dad, a great man. “No, no, no. Thank YOU”
Tim’s family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd., Grove City.
