Thomas E. Smith

Thomas E. Smith, age 81 of Grove City passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at his residence. Ed was born in Columbus to the late Frank E. and Louise A. (née Devlin) and graduated from Holy Family High School. After High School Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Ed was the custodian at St. Anthony Catholic School, St. Agnes Church, and later the custodian at Pleasant View Middle School from which he retired after 17 years of dedicated service. He was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Family Church and was a member of American Legion Post #532 and Moose Lodge #11. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing. Ed will be remembered for always being there for his family in his humble yet strong way. He is preceded in death by his daughters Flossie Howard and Shirley Nelson; grandson Shane Nelson; sisters Mary Lou McAtte and Shirley A. Wallace; and brother James Joseph Smith. Ed is survived by his children Sylvia (Randy) Ames, Debra (Harold) Crawford, Robert Perry, and June (Matt) Blair; sisters Sr. June Smith, O.F.M, and Rosie (Mike) O’Hara; brother George (Sharon) Smith and Michael John (Cathy) Smith; son-in-law Jimmy Howard; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pappy” and “Papaw”. Ed’s family will receive friends 5-8 PM Thursday, September 15 at Schoedinger Grove City 4242 Hoover Rd (Hoover Rd at Kingston Ave). Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Friday at Holy Family Church 584 W.
