Thomas C. “Tom” James, born in Inez, Kentucky, passed away quietly at his home on February 2, 2023 with his family by his side. Tom served in the Navy during WWII where he was a Seaman 1st Class “Gunners Mate” on the Battleship USS Boise from 1944 until his Honorable Discharge in November 1947. He retired in 1989 from Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Westerville. Tom loved to work in his vegetable garden and grow many tomatoes to give to family and friends; he was also an avid fisherman, loved working with his hands and repairing bicycles and ovens. He is sadly preceded in death by great grandson, Brandon, great great granddaughter, Kylie, parents, Melvin and Rosa (Kirk) James, brothers, JD, Norman and Rosco, sisters, Omeda (Bill) Burgess, Dixie Parks, Elizabeth (Gene) Porter, Gertrude Iseli (James) Gladys, Lucy (Forrest) Bennett, nephew, Mayo (Audry). Tom is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Dolores, daughter, Sharon (Jim) Knudsen, grandsons, Mike (Jessica) Knudsen, Shon (Gerda) Knudsen, 6 great grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler who serves in the Navy, Kimberly, Ashley, Riley, Abigail, 3 great great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Autumn, Elanie, many nieces, nephews and friends also survive. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 11-1 pm with a funeral service being held at 1 pm with Mark Dettmer, Celebrant. Interment will be at Concord Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.
