Ted D. Mackey (June 2, 1949 – April 12, 2024) passed away peacefully at the Kobacker House on April 12, 2024 at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Dorman Mackey. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol; brother, Jerry (Nancy) Mackey; sister-in-law, Bev (Mike) Rees; brothers-in-law, Bill (Chris), Bob, and Larry (Robin) Snashall; nieces and nephews, Jenny, Melissa, Amy, Michael, Jackie, Bill, Erin, Ryan, Shelby, and Samantha; great-nieces and great-nephews, Brandon, Dominic, Jenna, Addie, Josie, Ella, Emily, Caleb, Layla, Levi, Mabel, Cassidy and Savannah. In addition, he leaves behind many special friends and colleagues. Ted earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University and a Master of Arts degree from The Ohio State University. First and foremost, Ted was an educator - initially as a teacher, then as an assistant principal, and lastly as a principal. He truly loved his students. Over the years, he taught Speech, English, Drama and Mass Media. For many years, he directed high school theater productions. Ted even had the Grove City High School auditorium named in his honor. Except for his first year of teaching in Troy, Ohio, the majority of his career was spent at Grove City High School. Ted was a teacher, English Department head, assistant principal and principal at Grove City. In addition, he was a junior class adviser, prom coordinator, South-Western Education Association member, SWEA contract negotiator, SWEA Vice President and SWEA President. Ted's favorite hobbies included photography, motorcycling, bicycling, boating, traveling, camping, learning to pilot a small airplane, and attending sports and band competitions. Ted and Carol traveled to all 50 states in the U.S., as well as England, Australia and New Zealand. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd. (HOOVER RD AT KINGSTON AVE), Grove City. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus St., Grove City. Interment Sunset Cemetery.
