Michael D. Murphy

Michael D. Murphy, 70, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023. He was born January 28, 1953 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania to the late M. Donald and Theresa (Schappert) Murphy. He graduated from James M. Coughlin High School and went onto Wilkes University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics. Out of college he was a physics teacher, but then became a technical sales manager in the glass and thin films industry. He married Rosemary E. (Strinkoski) Murphy on November 28, 1974 – Thanksgiving Day. Michael enjoyed traveling, especially to Disney World, San Diego, and on cruises. He enjoyed building model ships and airplanes and watching football. Michael earned his FAA Private Pilot license and enjoyed flying for a number of years. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary. Mike is survived by his son; Rev. David (Karen) Murphy, grandchildren; Emma, Braeden, Colin and Kayla Murphy, mother, Theresa Murphy, sister, Maureen (Ron) Sweeda, sister, Karen Murphy (Tom Maluchnik), brother, Brian (Michaelene) Murphy and several nieces and nephews, as well as some dear friends.
