William "Bill" W. Schram passed away on Sunday September 11, 2016 at McLaren Macomb hospital with family at his side. He was born in Detroit on February 1, 1938 the son of Walter and Cecelia Schram. Mr. Schram, as his students called him, was a much beloved teacher of Government, Law and History at Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods. Mr. Schram was able to make the subjects come alive and for that ability many, many of his former students are grateful. Some of his students say that he singlehandedly turned them into the historians they are today. Mr. Schram retired in 1993 after 30 years of causing young minds to think, to not just read the words in front of them in the text book. Mr. Schram had received his Masters Degree in history from Wayne State University and was a learned scholar of the subject. Having never married, Bill loved to travel, taking day trips or week-end trips with his siblings, nieces and nephews. Bill especially enjoyed European travel and did so on several occasions. Bill is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Schram as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Cecelia Schram, his brothers Jack, Ronald (the late Elaine), his sister Mary Ann Cameron, and his niece Carolyn Schram. Visitation for Bill will take place on Wednesday from 4 until 8 pm with Rosary 7 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Bill will lie in state Thursday 9:30 am until time of Mass 10 am at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, 13770 Gratiot, Detroit 48205. The interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. It has been requested that memorial contributions be directed the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207 or Gleaners Food Bank, 2131 Beaufait, Detroit, MI 48207 or 24140 Mound Road, Warren, MI 48091.
