Throughout her life, Shirley was a devoted member of Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church. She served as an Elder, a Deacon, and was involved in various committees including Christian Education and Community Outreach. She was once described as the Ambassador of the Church, always reaching out to visitors to make them feel welcomed.
To those who knew her she was known as “the mother of anyone who needed one”. She was selfless, always focusing on the needs of others around her. With her own money and time, she purchased, organized and the distributed toys and over 150 winter coats to children in need through various organizations.
Shirley met and married the love of her life, Jack, on May 30, 1957. They built their home and made a life together in Grosse Pointe Woods. Together they raised their family and were loving parents and grandparents. Family meant everything to Shirley and everyone was family.
Her three children survive her, Jack Patterson (Laura) of St. Clair Shores, Glenn Patterson of Clinton Twp, and Jennifer DiFranco (Dan DiFranco- deceased) of St. Clair Shores; as well as two grandchildren, Amanda Patterson of St. Clair Shores and Alexander Patterson of Roseville. Shirley also leaves behind her faithful Toy Poodle companion, Cassie.
