Robert J MELDRUM age 88 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 27, 2017. Beloved husband of Geri Meldrum for 66 wonderful years. Loving father of Thomas (late Trisha), Bill (Jessica), Jan, Mary (Jack), Sharon (late Galen), David (Sally), Carol, and Ann (Jim). He was also a loving grandfather ("Papa") to 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Brother of Joanne Meldrum. Predeceased by his parents Chester J. and Josephine Meldrum, and his brother James (Vern) Meldrum. Robert graduated from De La Salle High School and received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Detroit. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army. During his life he served as member of the Christian Family Coalition and Citizens for Education. He retired in 1991 as Vice President of Planning & Administration at Cadillac Gage Textron, Inc., which allowed him to travel all over the world. He was a proud member of the St. Joan of Arc parish and presently he volunteered as a probation officer for the city of Harper Woods. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf and was even blessed enough to have gotten two hole-in-ones. To him, his family was always the most important thing, spending the majority of his time lending a helping hand whenever anyone needed anything, even if it was just to change a light bulb. Some of his most beloved times were our annual Meldrum family summer trips to northern Michigan (Sugar Loaf Resort) where he was always the first one up to go golfing in the morning with his children and grandchildren and then ready to spend the rest of the day at Lake Michigan at Leland beach and Fishtown. This 40-year tradition made our entire family the close family that we are today and his legacy will live on through the special memories we have made there and that will continue in his honor. He truly lived a full life blessed by God. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10 AM at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores. In lieu of flowers memorial contributes may be made to De La Salle Collegiate High School, 14600 Common Rd, Warren, MI 48088.
