Robert “Bob” Heiss, age 89, passed away on April 9, 2025. He was born in Grosse Pointe on January 6, 1936, to Robert and Thelma Heiss, Bob lived a full and active life shaped by his love for his family, sports, and his country.
From a young age, Bob had a deep passion for sports. Whether it was baseball, basketball, football, or golf, if it was being played, Bob was out there, giving it his all. That energy never left him. It’s also what led him to a chance meeting at the old bowling alley on Jefferson, where he met the love of his life, Sheryll. They married on July 16, 1960, shortly after Bob returned from serving in the Army.
Bob was a proud veteran, earning distinctions as a Marksman with both the M-1 Rifle and the Carbine. After his military service, he and Sheryll built a life together and raised two sons, Steven and David. Bob was their loudest supporter—literally. If there was a game, he was at the fence line, coaching from the sidelines, never one to sit quietly in the stands.
Later, Bob embraced the role of grandfather to three grandchildren: Robert, Leah, and Luc. Just like with his sons, he showed up—for the games, the concerts, the plays. Whatever his grandkids were into, Bob was there, proud and encouraging, cheering them on every step of the way.
Bob will be remembered for his unwavering support, his love of the game—whatever the game was—and his deep commitment to his family. He was the kind of guy who showed up, made noise, and never missed a moment.
Bob was welcomed into Heaven by his wife, Sheryll Ann; sisters, Shirley (John) Palmer, and Marlyn (Jack) Milroy. He is survived by his sons, Steven (Kim) Heiss and David (Margaret) Heiss; grandchildren Robert, Leah, and Luc, and a lifetime of memories shared with those who loved him.
An instate for Robert will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 4:30 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 20338 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM.
