Robert John Gregory, age 84 has gone humbly to be with our Lord on June 13, 2012. Robert was born on June 15, 1927 in Detroit, the son of Claude and Nellie Gregory. Robert was brought up on the eastside of Detroit and graduated from St. Rose High School. Robert served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. After his service time, he met Ann Jaspers in 1951 and the young couple married in 1953 at St. Julianna Catholic Church in Detroit. Together, Bob and Ann raised three children at their homes in East Detroit and later Harper Woods. Mr. Gregory was a finish carpenter by trade. He was a member of Local #26 of the Carpenters Union, AFL-CIO in Detroit. He was employed by the Ernest Hawkinson Construction Company until the company went out of business in 1980. Later he worked for the DeGiulio Cabinet Company in Dearborn until his retirement in 1992. Bob actually built the family home in East Detroit. Robert enjoyed model airplanes, restoring a 1927 Model T Ford and woodworking. He participated in the Wheels of Freedom Parade in Detroit with his Model-T for a couple of years and finished two Detroit Free Press Marathons in 1983 and 1985. He volunteered with both his Church and St. Vincent dePaul helping those less fortunate. His family described him as a selfless man who never complained. He was involved in his children's activities when they were youngsters and helped raise his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the same way. He always had time for his family. Visitation for Mr. Gregory will be held from 2:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. on Friday with a 7:00 o'clock rosary recital at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. His body will lie instate at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 20955 Bournemouth at Harper Avenue in Harper Woods, from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. William Herman will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. The family has requested memorial contributions be directed to the National Parkinson Foundation; Gift Processing Center; PO Box 5018; Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
