February 3, 1934 - July 6, 2023
Rita was born at home in a February snowstorm in Detroit’s Warrendale community, where she lived for most of her life. She and her husband Bill spent many happy years together, raising their three children and volunteering as active members of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Rita enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader and teaching catechism classes, as well as camping and traveling the world with her grandchildren.
Later in life, Rita became an active member of St. Edith Church in Livonia, and was cared for by her daughter Vivian for the final three years of her life.
Rita will be remembered for her generous spirit, her wicked sense of humor, her ballistic water balloon fights, and her love for her Church and for her Savior Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her brother, Richard (Jacqueline) Rybinski; children Vivian (Michael) Sawicki, Sharon Mifsud, and Kenneth (Jacqueline); her grandchildren Robert, Joseph (Emily), Sheryl, Clare (Katie), Emily (Kevin), Kathryn, Crystal (Marc), and Jason (Alicia); great-grandchildren Arthur, Lucienne, Haeli, Tessa, Chloe, and Chelsea, along with many nieces and nephews.
Rita will be waked on Monday, July 10th at A.H.Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236 from 3 - 9 p.m. with a Vesper Service at 5:30 p.m. and a Rosary at 7 p.m.
The funeral liturgy will take place on Tuesday, July 11th 11 a.m. at St. Jude Parish, 15889 E. Seven Mile, Detroit, MI 48205. She will lie in state at 10:30 a.m.
Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Southfield.
