

Nancy Florine Duensing, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016. She was born in Dubuque, Iowa on February 14, 1942, to the late John Mason and Florine Cate. She attended Nursing school, obtaining first her nursing diploma, followed by a Bachelor of Science, and later a Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University. She was a Nurse Practitioner for St. John Health System, where she was employed for 32 years. Following her retirement in 2015, Nancy dedicated herself to spending time with family and friends as well as volunteer work at her parish, St. Lucy Church, in St. Clair Shores. Nancy is predeceased by her husband, Rollin Duensing. She is survived by her two loving children, Sonja Thayer and Eric Shellum, as well as step-children, Lynette (Greg) Tiryakian, Britta (Jamie) Hurst, Robert (Jennifer) Duensing, and Mark (LaTisha) Duensing. Also survived by her beloved grandchildren John (Meghann), Chelsea, Olivia, Justin, Emily Rose, Adam, Jacob, Sally, Charlie, Allison, Daniel, Alana, Ava, Mariah, and Mark, and great grandchildren, John and Emmet. Sister-in-law Edie and brother-in-law Hollis (Ann). Mother-in-law to John Thayer. Sister of the late Ronald (Mary) Cate, Robert (Sharon) Cate, Carol (Fritz) Boland, Jay (Dawn) Cate, as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends. She is predeceased by Bernie Shellum. Visitation Tuesday 2:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. Funeral Wednesday at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 E. Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI 48080, instate 9:30 a.m. until time of mass 10:00 a.m. Father James Commyn will be officiating.
