Mary Jane Brennan, age 83, died peacefully at Sunrise on Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods on Monday, June 30, 2014. She was born in Detroit on March 30, 1931, the daughter of William and Ilene Howard. She grew up on Detroit's eastside and graduated Dominican High School in 1948. She continued her education and graduated Marygrove College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree. On October 11, 1952, Mary Jane married Thomas Brennan at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Detroit. Mrs. Brennan was a home economics teacher. She started teaching in 1960 at the Grosse Pointe High School (now Grosse Pointe South) and then at the new Grosse Pointe North High School when it opened in 1968. She retired in 1989. Mary Jane enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing, cooking and baking. She was actively involved in her children's and grandchildren's activities. She and Tom attended many sporting events, recitals and family trips. She was known for her great sense of humor and enjoyed entertaining family and friends, especially during the holidays. Mary Jane is survived by her children, Mary Jo Charboneau (Tom), Thomas A. (Nanci), Ellen Kossarek (Mark) and William (Robin); her 10 grandchildren, Kevin Brennan (Ceci), Pat Brennan (Lori), Chris Charboneau, Terry Brennan (Dorrie), Katie Lamb (Tim), Meghan Charboneau, John Charboneau (Evie), Mary Kossarek, Sam Brennan and Stephanie Brennan and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 2006. Visitation for Mary Jane Brennan will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Her body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake, St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m. Monday until her funeral mass begins at 10 a.m. Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin will officiate. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
