Louise "Elaine" Kocian passed away on October 12, 2016 at the age of 74. She was born on February 7, 1942 in Detroit; daughter of Albert and Bernice (nee Otlowski) DeClercq. Elaine graduated from Grosse Pointe South in 1959. She completed two years of college at Wayne State University. As a young woman, Elaine began her work career at the Detroit Times as an insurance representative. While taking a break by the coffee machine, Elaine met Robert Kocian. The two fell in love and were married on June 22, 1963 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Kocians have lived in Grosse Pointe Woods for the last 42 years. Mrs. Kocian had many interests and hobbies. She loved to go to garage sales. She enjoyed playing the penny slot machines at the casino. Elaine loved all animals and will be missed by her faithful dog Charlie Ann. Bob and Elaine loved going on cruise ships for vacation. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her peacemaking abilities. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Robert. She was proud of her son Jeff (Ellen) and daughter Kim. She adored her grandchildren Marissa, Scott, and Catie. She is survived by her aunt Rosemary and uncle Raymond. She leaves behind many loving extended family members and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday at 12:00 pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Her family will receive guests at 11:30 am.
