Helen I. Vecchiato

Helen I. Vecchiato, age 87, died peacefully on April 8, 2016 at Sunrise Assisted Living on Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods. Helen was born on September 14, 1928 in River Rouge, MI; the daughter of John and Theresa Simon. She graduated River Rouge High School in 1946. On January 14, 1949 Helen married Robert Vecchiato at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in River Rouge. The newlyweds began their married life living with Helen's parents until they bought their first home in Trenton. Helen was a caregiver for her family. She raised four children and took care of her husband, her mother and mother-in-law in their later years. Helen is survived by her children; Janice Bodenstedt (Wayne), Linda O'Hara, Robert J. (Mary) and Tony; and her grandchildren; Kelly, Vincent, Keith and Andrea. She was predeceased by her husband Robert. Visitation for Mrs. Vecchiato will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Her body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake in St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m. Monday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Richard Bartoszek will officiate. Interment will be at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock. The family has requested donations be made to Alzheimer's Association , 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
