Elaine M. Hawes, age 82, a longtime resident of Grosse Pointe Farms, passed away in Ray, Michigan on Memorial Day Monday May 28, 2018 Elaine was born in Detroit on Thursday, July 11, 1935to George and Elaine Schenck. Elaine attended Detroit Country Day high school and Dobbs Ferry high school where she graduated in 1955. After graduating high school Elaine earned an equivalent to an Associates degree in business and went on to work as a medical professional secretary for a private practice. She enjoyed spending summer time in Nantucket with her family. Many memories were made in Nantucket. She even spent an entire summer working there at a well known embroidery and stitching shop. Elaine was a very active and valiant woman. She was an expert estate sale specialist and enjoyed meeting new people and customers. She also spent her free time volunteering at Beaumont Hospital Gift Shop and the Fisher Theater. She was an avid reader and tremendous bridge player and was involved in two card clubs. Elaine loved her friends and family dearly. She loved spending time, being in the moment, and making memories. Her infectious spirit and zest for life will be missed by many. Beloved wife of the late William E. Crowther and Kingsley Hawes. Loving mother of Elaine Trzasko, Stacey (Michael) Goes, and George (Ann) Hawes. Loved grandmother of Claire Trzasko, Lydia Alshakarna, Jonathan Hawes, and Dylan K. Goes Christopher Beaton, and Jesse Beaton. Cherished great-grandmother of Ibrahim Alshakarna, Hamza Alshakarna, Zane Trzasko, Allysn Beaton, Christopher Beaton and Trenton Desmyther. Dear sister of Georgia (Peter) Young and Sandra (Michael) Kent. A memorial service will take place 11:00 am Saturday June 9 at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms, 48236. Memorial contributions in Elaines memory to Nantucket Atheneum of Massachusetts, the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, and Reverence Hospice.
