Edward John Russell Jr. of Grosse Pointe Shores passed away November 29, 2017 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Grosse Pointe Woods. He was born in Detroit, the son of the late Edward John and Anna Russell. He attended Roosevelt Military Academy and Grosse Pointe High School. He continued his formal education at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Mr. Russell was a WWII veteran. He served in the Pacific Theater for the U.S. Army as a Supply Logistics Officer. After his service to the country he returned to Detroit and joined his Father in the family construction business, Edward J. Russell & Sons, the predecessor of todays Russell Development Company. Mr. Russell led a very active life and especially enjoyed the pursuit of Big Game and Bird Hunting. He was a Trustee for the William Tyndale College. Other interests included fellowship at Grosse Pointe Baptist Church and the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. He and his wife of sixty-two years, spent the Winter months at their home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with friends from around the Midwest. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Russell and sister Esther Knopf. He is survived by his daughter Mariann Russell Looney (Michael) and sons Charles Matthew Russell and Edward J. Russell III (Marcia) along with 8 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Richard Russell. Family will receive friends and visitors Friday, 4pm to 8pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave Grosse Pointe Woods. On Saturday at 11am there will be a remembrance service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to "Grosse Pointe Young Life" 475 Fisher Rd, Grosse Pointe MI, 48230 would be appreciated.
