

Doris L. Peters died peacefully on February 23, 2011 at her home. Doris was born in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Louis and Freda Meyers. She was a 1952 graduate of the University of Michigan. Doris' purpose in life was being a loving and doting mother and grandmother. She received great joy and pleasure in doing for others. She upheld holiday traditions in her family and loved to shop and give presents to her family. Doris was a woman of her time and was concerned as a parent that her children would be well educated and be able to travel and see the world. Doris was a former member of the Woman's Association of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the First English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Woods. She enjoyed the arts, gardening, travel, cooking and baking and watching University of Michigan sports on television. Mrs. Peters is survived by her four children; David, Carol, Janet and Sally; six grandchildren; Savannah, Hope, Delaney, Hayley, Henry and Lucy; and her sister Jean Meyers. She was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Carter. The family will receive friends and visitors on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The funeral for Mrs. Peters will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Elsholz, Associate Pastor of First English Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at the White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to American Association of University Women.
