Dennis Arthur Gates

Dennis Gates passed away peacefully with family members by his side on July 21, 2015 at the age of 75. He was born on February 5, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Arthur and Mildred (nee Hintz) Gates. Mr. Gates was a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods for 38 years. He married Kathleen Vollick on April 2nd, 1971 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Eastpointe. Dennis was a family man with a happy go lucky spirit making him loved by everyone that knew him. He loved being on his boat and spending time on the golf course. Mr. Gates was very involved with parenting his five sons. He belonged to many Grosse Pointe North parents clubs and coached little league. He was a past president at First English Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Woods. Dennis survived a near fatal triple aneurism in 1997. His family is blessed to have had these last 18 bonus years with him. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen. He was proud of his sons Kevin, Dennis, Michael, Jeffrey, and Robert (Alyssa). He adored his grandchildren David, Erica, Kira, Kaitlyn, Amelia, Lincoln, and Hudson. He leaves behind his great-grandson Gabe and his brother Craig. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. He will lie in state on Friday at 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral at 11:00 am at First English Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Pastors Dr. Walter Schmidt and Krister Ulmanis will officiate. He will be interred at Greenlawn Cemetery in Orland, Indiana.
