He was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 7, 1943, son of the late Daniel and Joyce. He is survived by his dear wife of 55 years, Annette (née Snella), daughter Jennifer (Kenneth) Mazur, and son, David, Jr., as well as his cherished grandchildren Jack, Dan, Eleanor, and Elizabeth. David is also survived by his brother Tim; sisters, Liz (Art) Stanley, and Margaret (Dale) Smokovitz; sisters-in-law Kathleen (the late Daniel), Mary Kay, and Jeanne (the late Stephen); his extended Snella family – Judith (the late Edward), James (Deborah), and Allen (Diane); and many loving nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his sisters Joyce (infant) and Suzanne, and his brothers Mark (infant) and Christopher.
Dave grew up in Grosse Pointe Park and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1961. Immediately following high school, he served four years in the United States Air Force in Grand Forks, ND, finding out upon his return home that his parents had moved to Dearborn and forgotten to tell him.
Dave and Annette met on a blind date, fell in love, were married at St. Clare of Montefalco, and settled in Dearborn to raise their family. Over the years, Dave enjoyed being “that dad” who embarrassed his kids by standing on the lawn yelling at reckless drivers, and “motivated” them (and, later, his grandchildren) on the soccer sidelines with commands of “Don’t let them take your ball!”
David earned a business degree, but likely missed his calling as an engineer. His wise counsel on home improvement and mechanical conundrums was most appreciated by his family and friends. His mastery of the English language, and his admonishments to “look it up,” inspired his children and grandchildren to be precise communicators and acquirers of random information.
In his later career, Dave found much joy in his work as an Executive Chauffeur with MetroCars, where he made many friends and new acquaintances, and met some celebrities along the way.
Dave’s greatest joy was his family, and he cherished the time he spent with his four grandchildren. He was a special man and will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him.
