David Toelle passed away on August 5, 2017 at the age of 69. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Detroit; son of Elwart and Lillian (nee Urban) Toelle. David graduated from Austin High School in 1965 and Wayne State University in 1969. He was a life long eastsider residing in Detroit until buying a house in St Clair Shores in 1979. David married the love of his life, Dorothy Trapp, on October 17, 1970 at St, Jude Catholic Church in Detroit. David had many interests and loves in his life. He loved listening to Classic Rock and was a master at the air guitar and "steering wheel drum." His dry (sometimes dirty) sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends. He was always quick with a joke, clever quip or saying that would make everyone laugh. He and his best friend Steve would exchange their favorite punch lines, not necessarily the jokes, which would leave them crying tears of laughter. Most weekends you could find David at the familys cottage in Lexington, where he loved relaxing on the beach, usually being the first one there and last to leave. In his downtime at home, he loved watching hockey and Tigers baseball. When not watching the game, you could find him sitting on the front porch with a glass of bourbon in one hand and a cigar in the other. He will be missed by his beloved wife Dorothy. He was a proud and loving father to his son Eric; daughters Anne (Chris) Janutol and Katie Toelle. He adored his grandson Cameron and granddaughter Lily. He is survived by his sister Frances McKey. David will lie instate on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores. Father John Bettin will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207, or the Detroit Dog Rescue, P.O. Box 806119, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.
