Dr. Chester J. Skrocki, aged 98, passed away June 18, 2024. He was born on March 23, 1926 in Detroit to parents Bernice and Theodore, who immigrated from Poland. He was the second child of his family, brother to the late Henry.
He attended Chadsey High, while working after school delivering prescriptions for a local pharmacy on his bicycle and caddying at River Rouge Golf Club. He attended Wayne State University and afterwards attended medical school at Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine.
During his years at medical school, Chester sold shoes, dealt blackjack, was a janitor for an apartment building, and served as a hearse driver for the local funeral home to help fund his education. He established his medical practice on Harper Avenue, where he practiced for 50 years while serving as the local physician for the fire department and as a deputy Medical Examiner.
Dr. Skrocki was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Macomb County Osteopathic Association, the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons and a founding member of Mount Clemens General Hospital, now known as McLaren Hospital.
His motto was “take care of your patients and they will take care of you.” He said that every day at his office was a happy day no matter how hard or long he worked. After retirement, he visited his brother in Arizona and traveled to Poland to meet his extended family. Chester loved woodworking, gardening, his wife and his daughters.
Dr. Skrocki is survived by his wife Mary Ann Skrocki, his daughters Dr. Laura Skrocki D.O., Dr. Lisa Idnani D.D.S and his grandchildren Ava, Luka and Sarah.
A funeral Mass for Chester will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10 AM, instate at 9 AM, at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236.
