Carmela "Camile" Malfitano

Carmela "Camile" Malfitano (nee Mannino), a longtime resident of St. Clair Shores and recent resident of Lakeshore Senior Living, passed away on April 5, 2019 at the age of 95. A daughter of Vito and Antonina (nee Scrafano), she was born in Detroit on February 5, 1924. Camile attended Annunciation Catholic High School in Detroit and made her career as a medical stenographer for the pathology department of Art Center Hospital. For the majority of the year, Camile soaked up the sun at her condominium in Boca Raton, Florida, which she owned for over 30 years. Many remember her taking a cruise in her Ford Mustang convertible. Camile followed the stock market closely and read the Wall Street Journal every day. She was knowledgeable on all current events- reading the Detroit News every Sunday and watching CNN throughout the day. Camile was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and devoted volunteer at the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church Resale Shop. Beloved wife of the late Joseph. Dear sister of Petronilla "Nell" (the late John) Benedict and Carl (Kathy) Mannino. She is predeceased by her siblings Rose (the late John) Bommarito and Louise (Roger) Boileau. Camile is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Michael Bommarito and Rosanne Brugnoni (nee Bommarito), who played a special role in Camile's life. Camile's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Lakeshore Senior Living for their dedication and compassion. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9th, from 2:30 to 9:00 pm with a 7:00 pm rosary service at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. Camile will lie in state on Wednesday, April 10th, from 9:30 am until time of funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, 48080. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Contributions in Camile's memory may be made to Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph, 1820 Mt. Elliott St., Detroit, 48207.
