Bernice Mary Grant. Born June 15, 1931. Died January 9, 2023.
Bernice was born in Grosse Pointe to Irma and Julius D’ Hondt . She was a lifelong resident of the East Side and proud of her Belgian Heritage. She married the love of her life, Robert Grant, over 70 years ago. Together, they built a life and raised three loving daughters, Sheryl Grant Matute, Charlene Louckes (Curtis), and Laureen Foley (David). She was a proud grandmother of four and great grandmother of four.
Bernice was an employee of Jacobson’s Department Stores and retired from there in 1995 after 38 years. She was very active in the community and belonged to The Belgium American Association (Ladies Auxiliary) and Belgium American Association Retiree’s Club.
She was active in sports like skiing, golf, bowling, and ballroom dancing. A Memorial Mass will be said Saturday, January 14, at noon at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
