Anthony V. Gagliardi died peacefully on November 17th, his 91st birthday, with his family by his side. The son of Vito and Mary Gagliardi, he was born in Utica, New York. Blessed with the talent of a natural musician, Anthony began playing the accordion professionally at the age of twelve. He went on to play the piano and discovered his love for jazz. Mr. Gagliardi served his country as a paratrooper in World War II. Later he participated in the occupation of Japan, and rehabilitated Chinese prisoners of war. He graduated with a Masters in Journalism from Syracuse University. He worked for General Motors for 38 years in Public Relations, writing speeches and working with the press. He was also a gifted artist and had several of his oil paintings exhibited at the Scarab Club in Detroit. In retirement he played piano with "The Silver Foxes Band" at the Shore Pointe Nursing Home and enjoyed traveling with his wife Eleanor, with whom he recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Mr. Gagliardi is survived by his wife, Eleanor, son, Gary and daughters Carol (Tom) Shea and Gayle (Edmond) Kowalchick; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Peter, Stephanie, Christina, Anthony and Nicole. Visitation Wednesday 4-9 pm with a scripture service 7 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Wooods. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday November 20 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods. Mr. Gagliardi will lie in state from 9:30 am until time of funeral Mass. For memorial contributions, the family has designated St. John Hospital's Nephrology Department.
