She was born July 31, 1917 to the late Phil Brown and Willie Duke Brown in Lamar County. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Golden; two infant daughters; brother, Jake Brown and sisters, Martha Daniel and Winnie Littlejohn.
Sara graduated from Milner High School and later furthered her education at Griffin Business School. She retired from Gold Kist, Inc. as an association secretary and bookkeeper after 10 years of service. She later worked part time at Stacys as a bow designer where she tied thousands of red bows during the Christmas season. Mrs. Golden was known as “the bow lady.” She was a member of Carver Road Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and was director of the Senior Sunshine Group and the Happy Hearts and was on the church council. She was a long time member of AARP having served as President, Vice President, Secretary and on the Board of Directors. She was a member of First Friends and Young at Heart.
Survivors include daughter and her husband, Sylvia and Bill Lockridge of Meansville, GA; 2 grandsons, Shannon Brooks of Atlanta and Shane (Jill) Brooks of Jackson; 3 great-grandsons Blake Brooks of Tennessee, Nicholas Brooks of Dallas, GA and Levi Brooks of Jackson and great-granddaughter Sarah Brooks also of Jackson; step grandson, and his wife, Barry Lockridge and Stephanie of AL and 2 step great grandsons, Lance and Kristin Lockridge and Matthew & Tiffany Lockridge also of AL;; 2 step great great grandchildren; brother and his wife, Bob and Tillie Brown of Griffin; nieces and nephews, Phyllis Terrell, Dianne & Donnie Peters, Winston & Judy Littlejohn, Becky & Roger Lewis, Laurie Littlejohn, Barbara & Larry Mayfield, Wayne & Jane Golden, Don & Janice Mayson, Frank & Mary Ann Stanley, Marie Tingle, Chester Golden, Jerry Golden, Martha Ann & Ken McCarty; many cousins and special friends, Polly Clark, Jo & Larry Cobb & Carol Holt that provided much love & care, wonderful friendships and memories. She also leaves two wonderful pets behind, Leo & Patches.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sara Brown Golden will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Carver Road Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Summers and Rev. Craig Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Golden will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Friends and loved ones may visit the family on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
